Risks of mountain slides:
Mountain slides are considered a sudden geological hazard, and the risk of movements of ground materials depends on the slope of the slopes, the degree of water saturation, and the geological and engineering properties of the rocks and soil. Obstacles and roads that penetrate mountainous areas are considered the area’s most vulnerable to mountain avalanches in the SAUDI ARABIA. The types of mountain collapses are divided into several categories:
• The rapid fall of rocks from the top of high and steep slopes
• The sliding of rocks on geological structures, including faults, joints, and shear zones. This process occurs at different speeds, some at one level, some at two levels, some circular, and some overturning.
• Flow of sedimentary fragments (soil and rocks), where sedimentary flows occur at different speeds in the presence of water.
• Rock crawling occurs on specific types of rocks and in a very slow movement that cannot be followed with the naked eye.
Objectives:
• Study the geological risks related to mountain slides and their impact on infrastructure.
• Community awareness and protection from the negative effects resulting from the dangers of mountain slides
• identifying dangerous places that are at risk of mountain slides.
• Study the geometric properties of mountain slopes and perform digital modeling for each slope in order to develop the necessary solutions and recommendations to reduce and mitigate the risks of mountain slides.
